Výber z tvorby’ (Selected works), which offers the Slovak public a unique opportunity to admire the splendid works of one of the most famous and revolutionary Italian artists of the second half of the 19th century.

The exhibition is one of the highlights of the 17th Italian Festival in Slovakia ‘Dolce Vitaj’, organised every year by the Italian Institute for Culture in Bratislava in cooperation with the Italian Embassy in Slovakia and the Italian-Slovak Chamber of Commerce, with the support of important local partners and the patronage of the Mayor of Bratislava, Matuš Vallo.
The selection on show (open until 22 September) aims to represent various moments and genres of Segantini’s painting, from still lifes to portraits, from decorative works to those of the Brianza period. The Municipality of Arco contributed seven paintings: «Pulcini nell’aia» (1880-1881,oil on canvas, 43×70 cm), «Pannello decorativo con fiori» (1880 ca, oil on wood, diameter 74 cm), «Autoritratto all’età di vent’anni» (1879-1880, oil on canvas, 35×26 cm), «Natura morta con cacciagione e frutta», «Natura morta con lepre e frutta» and «Natura morta con pesce e verdura» (1879-1880, oil on zinc plate, 21×94,5, 26,5×100,5 and 20×95,5 cm) and «A messa ultima» (1886-1887, oil on canvas, 35,5×28,5), one of the recent acquisition of the museum in Arco. ‘A messa ultima’ was also chosen for the exhibition poster.
The inauguration, which took place in the chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows in the castle, was attended by the Italian Ambassador to Slovakia, Catherine Flumiani, the director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Bratislava, Alessandra Sanniti, the museum staff with director Peter Barta, and, for the Municipality of Arco, the councillor for culture Guido Trebo and the head of the Culture Office Giancarla Tognoni.
Ambassador Flumiani emphasised that the exhibition is a sign of the consolidated friendship and mutual interest between Italy and Slovakia, while Councillor Trebo spoke of ‘our joint commitment to the promotion and dissemination of the art and culture of our territories’. Pleased about the exhibition, in particular, was Director Barta, who praised the increasingly close relationship that the important Slovakian institution is forging with the Italian Cultural Institute.
