The spaces of the Galleria Civica G. Segantini di Arco now offer an additional room dedicated to new acquisitions by the Arco Municipality and two fine long-term loans.
On current display in this room there are three works: Natura morta con lepre e frutta / Still Life with hare and fruit (cm 26,5 x 100,5), Natura morta con pesce e verdura / Still life with fish and vegetables (cm 20 x 95,5) e Natura morta di cacciagione e frutta / Still life with game and fruit (cm 21 x 94,5), all painted by Giovanni Segantini between 1879 and 1880. The three oils on zinc plate, originally probably composed as a triptych and intended as an advertising sign, are an interesting novelty in Segantini’s oeuvre and will be the subject of future studies.
Alongside the three still lifes, a further two oil paintings have entered the MAG collections thanks to a long-term loan from a private collector: a small landscape, Paesaggio brianteo / Landscape in Brianza (1884-1885), and of Pulcini nell’aia / Chicks in the farmyard (1883-1885), both referable to Giovanni Segantini’s youth.
